Nezahat Suguder Arikoglu

Nezahat Sügüder Arıkoğlu 1920 – 2000 
Nezahat Sügüder Arıkoğlu was born in İstanbul, Turkey on April 7,1920. Her father Hamdi Sügüder was a Colonel in the Turkish Army. She graduated from Şişli Terraki Lissesi (Senior Highschool) in 1938 and from the Academy of Fine Arts of Istanbul     ( G.S.A.) in 1943 as an architect with a M.S. Degree.
  • 1944-1945 Worked with Prof. Paul Bonatz in Ankara, Turkey on the National State Opera Building. She placed first place in the competition of design for townhouses for the National Housing Bureau of Turkey.
  • 1945-1947    Thought at the Academy of Fine Arts as an assistant  to Prof. Hikmet Holtay. She won the first place award in the design competition fort he City Hall of Adana, Turkey.
  • 1947-1950    Studied History of Art at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.
  • 1950-1960 Collaborated as a partner with her husband Architect İlhan Arıkoğlu at their own Architectural / Engineering firm in Adana, Turkey
  • 1960-1967 Worked at Whiting Turner Contracting Co. in Baltimore Maryland as their Chief Architectural Designer.
  • 1967-1971 Self employed as an architect Associate Member of AIA in Baltimore Maryland
  • 1971-1981  Practiced as an architect with Arikoglu Associates in İstanbul, Turkey.
Mrs. Nezahat Arıkoğlu was married to Architect /Y.Mimar Ilhan Arikoglu and for over 30 years they designed and supervised number of architectural projects both in Turkey and USA. Their architectural collaboration produced buildings which received recognition as examples of excellence in Contemporary Architecture.
Nezahat  Arikoglu passed away in 2000 and was survived by her son Kaya Arikoglu who continued their architectural practice in USA and Turkey.
