LB Residences
Concept Sketch
Project Brief:
This project, comprising 24 units, is a satellite residential development located on the outskirts of Adana. The design prioritizes clear circulation pathways, with vehicular and pedestrian traffic distinctly separated. Communal semi-private zones are harmoniously integrated through a central promenade, serving as the spine of the project.
At the heart of the promenade lies a visually captivating garden, designed exclusively for aesthetic enjoyment, without inviting physical interaction or occupancy. To the south, a Zen garden with a reflective pool offers a tranquil space for meditation. In contrast, the northern end features a hardscaped courtyard, envisioned as a multifunctional area where residents can gather for social events or recreational activities, such as skateboarding. Adjacent to this courtyard is a L-shaped pool pavilion, which encloses an outdoor community pool, fostering leisure and social engagement.
The residential layout is thoughtfully arranged to accommodate diverse living preferences. The northern section includes six townhouses with compact footprints, while the southern portion consists of detached single-family homes, each offering private gardens. Semi-private outdoor spaces further enhance the sense of community, encouraging interaction and fostering a cohesive neighborhood environment. Surrounding the development, a perimeter pedestrian only pathway with connected nodes links all outdoor spaces, creating a seamless network for movement and interaction.
Given the unstructured nature of the surrounding urban fabric, typical of Cilicia’s contemporary cities, this development is enclosed within a secure boundary, attempting to create urban design in isolation. In other words, trying to make the best out of the given limited variables.
Sustainability was also a core design objective, incorporating solar panels and recycling facilities for each home accessible both from the premises and the outside inner street for maintenance purposes. Additionally, urban design elements such as “urban toys” as outdoor sculptures and other vertical features have been integrated to emphasize and enhance the urban diagram and further solidify a unique sense of place for LB residences.
This project strives to balance privacy with community, functionality with aesthetics, and innovation with tradition, providing a thoughtfully designed living environment for its residents.
